About Us
The Kent Sinfonia is a professional orchestra based in Kent, with members who either live in Kent or who have strong links with the County, and many of whom also play with the major London orchestras and throughout the country. Established in 1962 by Béla de Csilléry, then County Music Adviser, the orchestra gained full professional status in 1995.

A registered charity and one of the foremost orchestras in the South East, its aim is to take music to all. Central to this is its extended educational programme devoted to the next generation of concert goers. Kent Sinfonia also works with top international soloists and offers a platform for outstanding young artists.

Kent Sinfonia is planning several education music outreach projects, which will include concerts, with primary and secondary schools in Kent and the South East.

Kent County Council and the Creative Foundation, Folkestone, were recently successful in their partnership bid for the Cultural Offer ‘Find your Talent’ funding, for working with schools in the Shepway area and extending to other areas of East Kent. Kent Sinfonia has been invited as one of the Cultural Partners for the project.

In 2007 the orchestra recorded it's first CD, ‘Lost England’, featuring music by George Butterworth and Walter Leigh, British composers both killed at a young age in World Wars.

NEW SUSSEX OPERA / KENT SINFONIA PARTNERSHIP

After acclaimed performances of Mozart’s ‘Idomeneo’ in January 2008 and Vaughan Williams’ ‘The Poisoned Kiss’ in November 2008, Kent Sinfonia is again in partnership with New Sussex Opera for performances of Offenbach’s ‘Die Rheinnixen’ in October 2009.
